Super Quickk

Hey ladies!! I don't have much time for an update today, I have lotsss of homework! There is something I want to talk about! Last month I started "intuitive eating", you can read about it here.  I read the book in its entirety, and tried to apply everything at once. That was a little too much.. I've been doing pretty well, but I decided that baby steps are best.  This week I am working on Principal 1. (keep in mind, I am NOT using this program as a aid to weight loss, I want to maintain my weight, if not gain a little. I'm using it as an approach to a healthier relationship with food)  Before I met with a nutritionist, I was counting calories like CRAZY. While seeing the nutritionist she had me counting carb points and food groups.  Now I am at a healthy weight, and have been for a couple months now.  Im want to eat like a normal person.. not count carbs or ANYTHING (the nutritionist had me following guidelines on my own, but she told me to do whatever I pleased when comfortable.. as long as I didn't loose weight). I have been doing this for about 3 weeks, not counting anything.. just following my intuition.

In principal 1 it is "reject the diet mentality" although I was never on a "diet" I did have the mentality, I labeled foods as "good" and "bad" and used the nutritional information as a guide to my choices.  I have been working on this a great deal. If I want a cookie for my morning snack, well you know what? I'll have it.. because the body is an amazing thing.. it evens out over time if you cooperate with it.  I always measured all my food too. I used measuring cups, food scales.. etc. I got sick of it, I mean whats the point? and I have stopped all of it. except for oatmeal.

I don't measure my oatmeal to keep the "portion in check"  or anything like that.  I like my 1:2 ratio.. 1/2 oats, 1 cup water. It gives me the consistency I like, and its satisfying (for the body and mind)

Now my question for you is: is measuring my oatmeal a diet mentality? or a personal preference?

When you make a recipe, most of the time you follow the guidelines- so it turns out right.  By doing so, you are not following a diet, you are simply making a pleasurable product... thats how I see it with my oats.  If I put a little extra in, so what.. I just wont be as hungry later.

So whats your opinion..? Should I continue to measure my oatmeal.. or just let it be? I'd like some advice :)

CARBS!!

I love carbs... have I ever told you that?! Next to peanut butter and chocolate, carbs are my favorite thing!
I have a question for you.. What kind of bread do you use??? I don't use any "brand name" for a number of reasons.. 1) A lot of the time it is shipped across the country (bad for mother nature!) 2) icky preservatives to keep them fresh 3) at the local grocery store there aren't many organic bread brands.. and the ones that are available are often over 5 dollars. I get the fresh baked bread from Jewel!

They bake their bread every day, or every other day (I asked!) and they use all natural ingredients (which is good!) and its tasty too :)

Last night I had a very YELLOW dinner!

2 eggs scrambled (one on plate, the other on sammie.. with cheese) and an orange! Every week my family has "breakfast for dinner" I switch it up with omelettes, eggs and toast, and sammies!

I feel like I have been absent for sooo long.. I have tried so many new things.. so here's another review!

Reviewwww Time!
As I mentioned before, my local grocery store doesn't offer many organic brands.. and if they do they are EXPENSIVE! Bear naked granola (and other brands) go for about 5 dollars, and often last me only a couple weeks.  A month or so ago.. I bought a different granola! Quaker Oats offers a lot of "natural granola". I am not one to buy "low fat" things, so I bought this one..

Let me tell you one crazy thing about me.. I HATE coconut.. I cannot stand it! Weird right?! Now.. when I bought this granola.. I didn't look at the ingredient list. It has both coconut, and coconut oil. And guess what? I actually liked it! There is a subtle coconut flavor.. but not enough to turn me away! It is really sweet.. so it is perfect to be paired with greek yogurt.  When I use it with my sweetened yogurt.. I use less, but the crunch is still there! I give this a 8/10. I love the slivered almonds in it, I just wish it was a little less sweet
yumm. I had some today!

I hope you ladies have a wonderful night. I am off to make dinnah, shower, and ONE TREE HILL + GOSSIP GIRL (and maybe some more peppermint bark.....)

SNOWW!!

We had our first flurries here today! I used to LOVE snow. I am a snowboarder (although I don't go as much as I used to). But now that I have to drive in it, I don't like it as much! I am terrified of slipping off the road. I drive like a total grandma in the winter, but I don't care! haha.  I got off of work early today! it was a lovely present :)
Last night my mom and I watched a movie. I wanted a mix of salty+sweet...

popcorn and hot chocolate.  Other than peppermint bark, hot chocolate is my favorite winter food!!
This morning I had a lovely bowl of oatmeal. One of my favorite combos. I shall call this "Strawberry Crumble Oats"

1/2 cup Oats
1 TBSP PB (mixed in)
1 Kashi Strawberry Cereal bar (crummmmbled)

I basically live off of everything kashi... I eat their heart to heart, and honey sunshine cereals. I have their bars and crackers A LOT... and I LOVE their pizza.  Maybe I should buy some stocks?! hahahha jk

REVIEW!
I had a coupon for Nature Valley Nut Clusters.. and I decided to buy some!

They taste just like their peanut butter granola bars. I loved it! It was a little sweet, and salty. I loved the fact that they were in the little "clusters" because you could just grab one and pop it in your mouth! They were a perfect snack for work! a 9/10!

Well.. Im off to make some english muffin egg sammies, and relax the night away! have an awesome evening!!

Do you guys ever have "Breakfast for Dinner"?

Sundayyy.

Hello ladies! Sorry I haven't posted since wednesday.  I've been sorta feeling under the weather- so to say.  My moods have been off & all over the place, so I just needed a little time to relax! Anyways... It was homecoming weekend this weekend. I didn't go to the game (it was like 40 degrees out!) and I didn't go to the dance either, (no one to go with..).  I haven't really talked about my friends much, have I? Well, that's because I really don't have a lot.  But you know what? I'm okay with that.  Freshman-Sophomore year I had a lot of friends.  You know when you see that group of girls, and they're all such "great" friends? That was me.  I was having a blast.. until they started using party drugs, and going to clubs.  Really, that's not my scene.  I hate drugs I think they're stupid, and a waste of money.  Since then I haven't really found a group to fit in with.  I sill do have friends.. just not as many as I used to.  Honestly, I am very independent and I don't always need a person around.  I've just been counting down until college so I can move on and meet new people.  My school is filled with immature people.  Almost 95% of the kids drink and do drugs every weekend.. and I just don't want to be a part of it!

WHEW! okay, lets get on with the food, right?

H2H Cereal!

Oatmeal!

English Muffins!

Random lunches...

Pizza

No pudge brownies! I didn't have any plain yogurt, so I used applesauce! It was pretty good, but I think the applesauce gave it a VERY fudgy consistency! It was good, but I think ill buy some yogurt!

Stay warm and have a fab. sunday!

Back in Black.

Okay, not in black.. but you get the point (:  It feels good to be on here again! I've really missed talking to everyone! I've made some major tweeks (aka the site looks completely different!) Tell me what you think :)  So.. you may be wondering what I have been doing with my time?!

Spending time with my doggie :)

Rereading the twilight series (for the third time)

And you know what?! It gets better every time.  You may ask why I reread it.. well since new moon is coming out on film.. i wanted to read the series again.  But you know what?! After reading the series through I decided I am not seeing the movie.  I know it will disappoint me, and fail to meet my expectations (just like twilight) and it will just frustrate me! I am so much happier and content with how the story plays out in my head. ( although, i really wish bella hurt jacob when she attacked him...)

and doing dreadful physics

I've also been relaxing.. alot. It feels really good :) It was nice to have some time to myself and relax after my stressful summer!

I've still been enjoying typical food....

Honey Sunshine oats! (i've been eating a lot of oatmeal! it's been super cold here..)

apples ( they are SOO good right now)

Rice dishes!

Well I hope you ladies have a fab day!!!

Question: What is your favorite thing to eat on cold days?  Mine is ovb. oatmeal!

Intuitive Eating

I have something I want to talk about today! These past couple weeks I have tried intuitive eating.  This involves eating when you are HUNGRY (not when it's "time" to eat) and stopping when you are satisfied, not stuffed.  It's been difficult, but its something that progresses over time.  There's no counting, no measuring, and you eat whatever you want, whenever. If I'm ACTUALLY hungry, then i'll eat something, whereas before I would wait until it was "time"  There is a lot of information on the web, I suggest you do some reading! its really inspiring, and amazing to see how your body knows exactly what it wants, and when it wants it!
Here are the ten principals from www.intuitiveeating.com

1. Reject the Diet Mentality

Throw out the diet books and magazine articles that offer you false hope of losing weight quickly, easily, and permanently. Get angry at the lies that have led you to feel as if you were a failure every time a new diet stopped working and you gained back all of the weight. If you allow even one small hope to linger that a new and better diet might be lurking around the corner, it will prevent you from being free to rediscover Intuitive Eating.

2. Honor Your Hunger

Keep your body biologically fed with adequate energy and carbohydrates. Otherwise you can trigger a primal drive to overeat. Once you reach the moment of excessive hunger, all intentions of moderate, conscious eating are fleeting and irrelevant. Learning to honor this first biological signal sets the stage for re-building trust with yourself and food.

3. Make Peace with Food

Call a truce, stop the food fight! Give yourself unconditional permission to eat. If you tell yourself that you can't or shouldn't have a particular food, it can lead to intense feelings of deprivation that build into uncontrollable cravings and, often, bingeing When you finally “give-in” to your forbidden food, eating will be experienced with such intensity, it usually results in Last Supper overeating, and overwhelming guilt.

4. Challenge the Food Police

Scream a loud "NO" to thoughts in your head that declare you're "good" for eating under 1000 calories or "bad" because you ate a piece of chocolate cake. The Food Police monitor the unreasonable rules that dieting has created . The police station is housed deep in your psyche, and its loud speaker shouts negative barbs, hopeless phrases, and guilt-provoking indictments. Chasing the Food Police away is a critical step in returning to Intuitive Eating.

5. Respect Your Fullness

Listen for the body signals that tell you that you are no longer hungry. Observe the signs that show that you're comfortably full. Pause in the middle of a meal or food and ask yourself how the food tastes, and what is your current fullness level?

6. Discover the Satisfaction Factor

The Japanese have the wisdom to promote pleasure as one of their goals of healthy living In our fury to be thin and healthy, we often overlook one of the most basic gifts of existence--the pleasure and satisfaction that can be found in the eating experience. When you eat what you really want, in an environment that is inviting and conducive, the pleasure you derive will be a powerful force in helping you feel satisfied and content. By providing this experience for yourself, you will find that it takes much less food to decide you've had "enough".

7. Honor Your Feelings Without Using Food

Find ways to comfort , nurture, distract, and resolve your issues without using food. Anxiety, loneliness, boredom, anger are emotions we all experience throughout life. Each has its own trigger, and each has its own appeasement. Food won't fix any of these feelings. It may comfort for the short term, distract from the pain, or even numb you into a food hangover. But food won't solve the problem. If anything, eating for an emotional hunger will only make you feel worse in the long run. You'll ultimately have to deal with the source of the emotion, as well as the discomfort of overeating.

8. Respect Your Body

Accept your genetic blueprint. Just as a person with a shoe size of eight would not expect to realistically squeeze into a size six, it is equally as futile (and uncomfortable) to have the same expectation with body size. But mostly, respect your body, so you can feel better about who you are. It's hard to reject the diet mentality if you are unrealistic and overly critical about your body shape.

9. Exercise--Feel the Difference

Forget militant exercise. Just get active and feel the difference. Shift your focus to how it feels to move your body, rather than the calorie burning effect of exercise. If you focus on how you feel from working out, such as energized, it can make the difference between rolling out of bed for a brisk morning walk or hitting the snooze alarm. If when you wake up, your only goal is to lose weight, it's usually not a motivating factor in that moment of time.

10 Honor Your Health

Gentle Nutrition Make food choices that honor your health and tastebuds while making you feel well. Remember that you don't have to eat a perfect diet to be healthy. You will not suddenly get a nutrient deficiency or gain weight from one snack, one meal, or one day of eating. It's what you eat consistently over time that matters, progress not perfection is what counts.

I didn't start doing this because someone told me to, I decided to try it on my own. It has reduced my stress over food, I have neither lost or gained weight, and I have had a happy medium.  I know my body is at its "happy weight" because I am eating what it wants, and maintaining.  I suggest you try it for a day (at least).  stop eating on schedule, stop following a plan, and just eat and enjoy. Eat what you want, whether you deem it "good" or "bad" eat it because you like it, and because it tastes good! (although, I do not suggest going against doctor or nutritionists orders..)
Here's the hunger scale I follow..
HUNGER SCALE

10 - STUFFED: so full that you feel nauseous
9 - VERY UNCOMFORTABLY FULL:
you need to loosen your clothes
8 - UNCOMFORTABLY FULL: you feel bloated
7 - FULL: you feel a little bit uncomfortable
6 - PERFECTLY COMFORTABLE: you feel satisfied
5 - COMFORTABLE: you're more/less satisfied,
but could eat a little more
4 - SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE: you're just
beginning to feel signs of hunger
3 - UNCOMFORTABLE: stomach is rumbling

2 - VERY UNCOMFORTABLE: you feel irritable
& unable to concentrate
1 - WEAK & LIGHT-HEADED: your stomach acid is churning

**
Begin eating when you're at a 3 or 4
**
Stop at 5, if you're trying to lose weight
**
Stop at 6, if you're wanting to maintain your weight

I normally eat a meal at 2.5 haha.. but I eat a snack at 3-4 depending on the day.
depending on what I am eating, how much i like it, etc.. i try to stop eating at a 6-7

everybodys different, but you got to try it and see! :)

Question: Have you ever tried this? if not, do you plan to?

I find it hard on school days, because my schedule is so mixed up, sometimes I just eat because it's the only time available. At home I follow pretty well :)
